With a new football trophy in the case engraved with 2013 Mississippi 6A State Champions, the Oak Grove Warriors continue to carry on their tradition of success and accomplishment! When the Warriors came to RARE in search of a rebrand that would reflect the history, tradition, and present day achievement of their athletic program, we were thrilled to be a part of the task.

With a new system of athletic marks, the Warriors can stand proudly behind the visual identity of their team, knowing it truly reflects what it means to be an Oak Grove Warrior.

OG2

Warrior. Writings of H.B. Cushman.

The dignity of chieftainship was bestowed up on him who had proved himself worthy by his skill and daring deeds in war; and to preserve the valiant character of their chief, it was considered a disgrace for him to be surpassed in daring deeds by any of his warriors; at the same time, it was also regarded as dishonorable for the warriors to be surpassed by their chief. Thus there were great motives for both to perform desperate deeds of valor – which they did; nor did they wait for opportunities for the display of heroism, but sought perils and toils by which they might distinguish themselves. These war parties presented a wild and fearful appearance more calculated to strike terror to the heart of the beholder than admiration.

OG1

Primary Mark

With wildly painted faces illustrating the most resolute warrior with fearless bravery, the warrior markings were believed to hold powers of protection. The achievements of warriors were often reflected in the symbolism of their war paint. Every mark on the face and body had great meaning.

The distinction of the honorable zig-zag line on the forehead symbolizes lightning which was believed to add power and speed to the warrior.

Black paint is perceived as a “living” color and worn on the face to prepare for war. Very aggressive in color, black means strength as well as indicating that the wearer is a powerful warrior who has proved himself victorious in battle.

Yellow is a symbol that the wearer was heroic, had led a good life and was willing to fight to the death. It also symbolizes intellect.

While powerful in battle, the warrior is also a man of peace. White is a symbol of this desire for great peace among all men.

OG3

The Warrior and his War Party glide noiselessly, like ghosts through the dense forests, painted in the fiercest, most fantastic manner conceivable. Not for display, but to strike fear into the heart of their enemy. Like a towering and enraged bear, they exhibit the most intense, resolute, and fearless bravery known to man.

They are Warriors.
